The truth is, we LOVE gift-giving.

It literally keeps us up at night. What will we make/buy? How will we package it? What's the story?

It's almost a gift unto ourselves to be able to design a loved one's gift-receiving experience. The giddiness we feel jumping up and down in anticipation of the subject of our love opening said gift is a full-on cardio workout.

But, some of us didn't grow up in a household where gift-giving was a norm or a privilege. Whether that be to celebrate a birthday, festival, or a religious holiday, a lot of families cannot afford to buy anything extra than the bare necessities. Some of us remember working at donation centers throughout our young adulthoods to sort age-appropriate gifts for parents to take home to their children.

And, gifts come in so many forms. They can be tangible, but they can also be intangible and free - like, quality time together. And, we are in love with all its forms.

So, as we enter the latter part of the year - a time of lots of holidays for different communities - we invite you to take part in a project: Tomatokind's first Small Business Adventure and Gift Guide!

This fall, we are talking to people from around the world to curate a folio of small businesses for our collective gift-giving needs. We see a lot of gift guides get shipped in the ether around the wintertime, but we are specifically creating a space to celebrate small-businesses rooted in our neighborhoods. Then, in the next month, we will turn our cross-continental fieldnotes into the first edition of this cozy gift guide.

For our first foray into this adventure, we will be focusing on breadth and accessibility, so that all readers can walk away with a new gem. Join our discovery journey!
